The Institute of the Catechist Sisters of Mary Immaculate Help of Christians, commonly known as the Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI) was founded on 12 December ,1948 in Krishnagar, by Bishop Louis LaRavoire Morrow, SDB, the fourth Bishop of Krishnagar, West Bengal, India.
The aim of the  Institute is the holistic development of family: its spiritual, moral, social and material welfare, especially of women, girls and children by making them aware of God’s unconditional love and tender care of them. This is realized by sharing with them their deep intimacy and personal experience of God, through our various ministries, in imitation of Jesus who went about doing good to all: healing, teaching and always proclaiming the Good News that he came to lead everyone to God. The Sisters live and share their motto, To love God and help others to love God.
