Mariah Carey’s song “Hero” is a very inspiring song that tells us to find the hero within  each one  of us.

 There’s a hero

If you look inside your heart

You don’t have to be afraid
Of what you are
There’s an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

It’s a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear

Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don’t let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You’ll find the way

Reflecting on this  song, I wrote  a poem some years back entitled “Be Heroes.”

 The young I see

them stick posters

of their heroes wherever they go.

They hunt for T-shirts

and caps with their heroes stuck on them.

The sickness has even caught up

with the so called mature ones too

who keep speaking of the exploits of

their dead heroes.

Unfortunate victims, they live dying

boasting of the  glory

of their  heroes,

and themselves zeroing

with little stuff in them.

Aren’t we  all heroes for the one

who said, ‘Every

hair on your head has been counted;

you are precious,

your names are written

on the palm of my hands.’

 Be heroes yourselves!

Though it sounds humorous, don’t forget your preciousness as a unique creation of God to grow up to be a precious one in the world,  living by human and Divine values,   contributing to  social well being.
