KNOW YOUR ORIGIN AND WORTH: Dr. P.D. Johny sdb

If someone were to ask you the question, “How were you born?” what will be your answer. I am quite certain that you will be quite shy to answer this biological question. Therefore, let me answer the question myself. If I am given this question, I would like to answer it thus, “My father and mother became one in love and millions of sperms from my father’s body entered my mother’s body. One out of those millions won the race of millions and united with the ovum of my mother’s body and I came into being.” It is quite interesting to note that I am because of that one sperm winning the race. If it was a different sperm, the product would not have been me. I then ask the question, “Why me and why that one?”
Working out the theories of permutations and combination and probability, the chances for that one winning the race was very very small. I wouldn’t then call my birth as a coincidence or as an accident. It is much more than that. I am a divine selection or a miracle of God.
Quite interestingly, if from such a small possibility, I was born into this world, then my role in this life is quite unique and is clearly cut out. What I can achieve in this world, nobody else can achieve. The way I think and imagine nobody else can.
Hence, I cannot be satisfied with ‘just survival’ or ‘average living’. I am born for greater things. Standing on the ground with feet down, I am called to have my head aiming for that stars above. Whatever be my origin or the economic, social, cultural and educational situation of my family, I have dreams which are bigger. I am here to live this life in an extraordinary way. I am challenged by a wayside poster, “If it is to be it is up to me!” I realize that my life has to be filled with a positive restlessness and a creative aggression.
I believe the future belongs to those who have lofty dreams. As Zadok Rabinwitz said, “A man’s dreams are an index to his greatness.”
I am certain that each child has the potential to be an achiever, to defy the equilibrium, to challenge the paradigm and to chart new paths foe other to follow. It was Bob Richards, the Olympic pole-vaulter who once said, “There is genius in every person.” One of Zig Ziglar’s favourite quote is “people are designed for accomplishment, engineered for success and endowed with the seeds of greatness.”
May you impact the society with your life and your contribution. All the best!
