DREAM BIG: Dr. AJ Sebastian sdb

I always believed in dreaming big and achieved to a great extent. For the past several years, I have been motivating my students and young people to build dreams and make them come true with hard work, determination and God’s grace.

Have you set a big dream for yourself?

Joyce Chapman has rightly said: “If your dream is a big dream, and if you want your life to work on the high level that you say you do, there’s no way around doing the work it takes to get you there.”

Remember, God has created you to bring the best in you…you are a ‘rough diamond’ to be polished to be precious. Years back, a gemmologist friend in the US showed me how precious and priceless diamonds are made out of a rough ones by cutting and polishing them with great patience and precision.

Problem with is that we are small dreamers with no discipline and determination.

The story of Govind Jaiswal is very inspiring. I read about him in the news, how in 2006 Jaiswal ranked 48 in the Civil Services Examination. His father was a rickshaw puller who sold off his land to provide education to his son. He sat down to study with some assistance and qualified for IAS. Despite heavy odds of lack of facilities in his village, Jaiswal toiled every night and achieved his dream.

My advice to you young students is to keep trying and you will definitely get to the top one day.

You may find your dream too difficult to reach at some point of time, but never let go of your dream. If you stay determined and persevering, God will help you with his grace. Seek counsel from an elder or a mentor to inspire you and monitor your dream vision.

There may come a time you may find discouraged. Think of what Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.”

Keep in mind what we read in the book of Proverbs “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” 3:5-6.
